Keeping Your Humidifier Clean
In the process of evaporating water, minerals are left behind and will accumulate over time. Minerals are present to some degree in all treated water sources. These include calcium which forms a hard ‘scale’, or other elements such as iron which contribute to staining. For that reason, all humidifiers require periodic cleaning to ensure safe and proper operation.
Depending on the evaporative technology used in the humidifier, the maintenance procedures can differ between models. Refer to the care and maintenance procedures specifically developed for your unit as described in the product’s Manual.
However, there are several operating considerations that apply to all humidifiers;
Caution: Never mix different household cleaners containing ammonia, chlorine with descaling solutions containing acids, as these will cause a dangerous chemical reaction producing potentially lethal fumes. After cleaning, rinse the surfaces thoroughly with fresh water to prevent dispersal of residual chemicals in the duct system during subsequent use.
