Fine art can become damaged by poor, dry air - but humidity dramatically improves the condition of artwork?
North Americans use close to 100 gallons of water per person per day - almost double the average usage of people in other parts of our world. Perhaps because it flows from our taps in what appears to be a never-ending supply, we tend to take it for granted and seriously overuse it.
Water conservation and water efficiency have been issues in the forefront of our minds as consumers, business operators and led in many areas by our water works dept within most municipalities. Over 100 municipalities across North America now have water efficiency or water conservation programs encouraging each of us to become more water efficient.
The benefit of reducing our water consumption is not only about conserving a precious and vital resource, its impact reaches beyond the water to the air we breathe. The reason our air is impacted by these efforts is due to the indelible ties between energy and water. Water is heavy and it takes a lot of energy to move water from its source to a treatment plant, then transport it to a home and back to another treatment plant before finally returning it back to its source. In other words, there is a significant amount of “embedded” energy contained in each drop of water we use and if the electricity is generated using fossil fuels, every drop of water also has an associated release of CO2 in the atmosphere. To learn more about the relationship between energy and water, please visit www.allianceforwaterefficiency.org and www.poliswaterproject.org.
As the true cost of domestic water is beginning to be understood by policy makers, more effort will be funneled into conservation programs and efficiency standards in the future. Fortunately some regional water utilities have taken a leadership position by offering rebates for installing high performance, water efficient humidifiers. Click here for more information
At Desert Spring Products we are committed to help in the effort to reduce pressure on our most precious natural resource by designing functionally superior, yet environmentally sustainable products.
Desert Spring Products unique and patented Rotary Disc and Pulsed Flow-Through technologies yield many user benefits, including reliable performance, simple maintenance, energy and water savings when compared to traditional 'flow-through' designs.
Based on historical weather data and a few assumptions about usage*, it is possible to estimate how much water and energy you may expect to save with a Rotary Disc Humidifier.
To find out the approximate annual seasonal impact you could have on the environment, refer to the chart above, or please select your State or Province:
The Desert Spring Products Rotary Disc humidifiers have a water efficiency ratio of 1:1 - almost 100% water efficient. A small amount of water needs to be discarded at regular intervals to drain minerals that collect in the drain basin (i.e. 1 gallon / draining). This is in comparison to many conventional Flow-Through humidifiers which have an efficiency ratio of between 5:1 and 8:1. For every gallon of water evaporated into humidity between 5-8 gallons are wasted down the drain, usually in the form of warm water due to significant heat transfer from the hot furnace air!
For those home-owners and contractors who still prefer Flow-Through humidifier technology, Desert Spring Product’s Pulsed Flow-Through humidifier is a break-through that reduces the demand for water by up to 80% compared to conventional Flow-Through technology. The efficiency ratio of this product is roughly 10:9, or 90% of the water used is converted to humidity, a remarkable conservation improvement for this class of products.
