North Americans use close to 100 gallons of water per person per day - almost double the average usage of people in other parts of our world. Perhaps because it flows from our taps in what appears to be a never-ending supply, we tend to take it for granted and seriously overuse it.

Water conservation and water efficiency have been issues in the forefront of our minds as consumers, business operators and led in many areas by our water works dept within most municipalities. Over 100 municipalities across North America now have water efficiency or water conservation programs encouraging each of us to become more water efficient.

At Desert Spring Products we are working to do our part too. Our humidifiers have a water efficiency ratio of 1:1 - almost 100% water efficient. A small amount of water needs to be discarded at regular intervals to drain minerals that collect in the drain basin (i.e. 1 gallon / draining). This is comparison to many competitive products of the "Flow through" humidifiers which have an efficiency ratio of between 5:1 and 8:1. For every gallon of water evaporated into humidity between 5-8 gallons are wasted down the drain, usually in the form of warm water due to significant heat transfer from the hot furnace air!
